A Bold Revival in Rhythm and Design

Infusing jazz-inspired dynamism to reintroduce a cultural icon for a new generation.

The magazine had been out of print for many years, and the client, NME (New Musical Express), needed a bold and memorable return for their first issue. Tasked with leading the creative vision for this relaunch, I took on the challenge of delivering a design that would not only reintroduce the magazine but also position it as a contemporary cultural force. Leveraging my passion for jazz, I infused the project with the genre’s dynamism, chaos, and spontaneity, channeling those qualities through a strategic exploration of Dadaism and Constructivism.

I developed a cohesive, creative strategy that balanced energy and restraint—elements that mirror the essence of jazz itself. By combining bold, rhythmic visuals with a structured, deliberate typographic system, I established a dynamic tension that invites readers to experience the design as a performance and a story. The prominent elements, carefully choreographed across the cover and spreads, evoke the improvisational groove of jazz, creating a visual narrative that dances and resonates on the page.

I ensured that every design decision aligned with the magazine’s overarching vision for its relaunch, reinforcing brand identity while engaging a new generation of readers. I translated the client’s aspirations into a high-impact design solution that celebrated the magazine’s legacy and ushered in its modern revival. STUDENT PROJECT
