Designing Lasting Stories for Global Health Advocacy

Balancing functionality and storytelling to spotlight neglected diseases and the heroes fighting for change.

Drugs For Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi) sought to create content that could remain relevant year-round without requiring constant updates. To meet this need, I developed a series of Disease Evergreen pieces—content designed to convey critical, unchanging facts about neglected diseases while maintaining their impact over time. This initiative was rooted in collaboration, as I worked closely with researchers and referenced the annual report to ensure the accuracy and relevance of the information.

To enhance accessibility and usability, I designed these pieces in Canva, empowering non-designer colleagues to make simple edits as needed. This approach ensured the content could be updated efficiently without compromising its visual integrity. At the heart of these designs was a focus on the individuals affected—those often overlooked in the global health narrative. Through prominent, dynamic, and captivating imagery, I placed these individuals at the forefront, portraying them as patients and heroes in the ongoing fight for treatments for neglected diseases.

As the creative lead on this project, I aimed to balance functionality with storytelling, crafting informative and deeply human designs. By revealing the heroism of those affected and the researchers working tirelessly for change, the designs served as a powerful reminder of DNDi’s mission while providing a lasting, impactful resource for advocacy and education.
